Welcoming Mosaic Family Support to ASC Portland

ASC Portland recently welcomed Mosaic Family Support to take part in a range of activities, for the second time this year.

Mosaic offers support to children and young people who have been bereaved of someone special, such as a parent, sibling, friend or a member of their extended family.

The Andrew Simpson Centre Portland has worked alongside Mosaic for years, giving young people within the Mosaic Support network the chance to get out on the water.

This opportunity allows young people to take part in sailing, kayaking and giant paddleboarding, all activities which rely on teamwork and communication. The unique setting enables the participants to build friendships and trust with fellow participants, and staff and volunteers from both Mosaic and ASC.

Providing Mosaic with a private room also enabled them to offer a Bereavement Cafe where counsellors were available for families to talk about their loss.

We’re proud to continue to support Mosaic and look forward to welcoming them again in 2025.

Una was taught to sail at an early age by her father. After years of teaching all over the world she’s settled in the UK and is now working at ASC Portland.

In 2024, a group of children participated in a day of sailing through Mosaic, a local bereavement charity.
