This year’s Autumn Regatta was sponsored by 180 Fitness. 180 is a family-run gym in Portland, much like ASC it was set up in memory of a close friend. Together, Cassie, Phil, Hana and Ryan have created a fitness hub which helps support local community groups such as Portland United Youth Football and provides a space for anyone to train, gain confidence and achieve their goals. Their commitment to the local community hasn’t gone unnoticed as they’ve been shortlisted for Newcomer of the Year at the 2025 National Fitness Awards.
This year’s Autumn Regatta was hosted on October 1st and 2nd, it brought together 50 sailors from 10 schools across the 2 days. Portland Harbour provided a gentle breeze which built across the two days allowing participants to practice their skills and develop race by race. The Autumn Regatta provides participants with the opportunity to meet like-minded sailors, gain confidence in a coastal setting and practise their skills.
Ian Purcell from Brambletye School “This year’s October regatta was once again a great event. The ASC team as usual provided really professional organisation and support, from the clear instructions imparted to the children at the briefing to the friendly advice given to those with less experience by the plentiful instructors on the water. Whoever organised the weather did a perfect job with a calmer breeze and sunshine for the juniors and a little more lively on day two for the seniors. It is a long way for us to come from Sussex but the children and parents really enjoyed the regatta and they learned a lot and made great progress. Thank you for organising.”
October 1st brought light winds for our Under 11 sailors. Four races were completed with impressive determination from all competitors. The light breeze tested their wind awareness; we saw great sportsmanship on the course as participants came together with varying sailing experience.
Congratulations to Walhampton Sailors who took home 1st, 2nd and 3rd place overall.

The Over 11s joined us for October 2nd. The wind built steadily throughout the day, giving participants the perfect opportunity to get used to the course and develop their boat handling skills. As confidence grew, so did the competitiveness, with some exciting racing and close finishes.
Victoria Pearce, who supported sailors from Brambletye, Worth and Mayfield School said “The Autumn regatta strikes a balance between stretching and encouraging the competitors. The sailors improve their racing skills and are fiercely competitive, while having a lovely time, with the experienced ASC staff on hand to encourage, referee and promote good sportsmanship.”
Congratulations to Walhampton Sailors, Bora Carrington and Louis Rumboll for taking 1st place overall with peers Rory Bubb and Theo Barton taking 2nd place as well as West Hill Park, William Foster and Aidan Holt for taking 3rd place.
