Success for Stanley at the URBOND Youth Charity Awards
On Tuesday 10th September at the Kings Theatre in Portsmouth, the team at ASC Portsmouth joined Stanley Matthews-Bunting and his family at the URBOND Youth Charity Awards, where Stanley was the recipient of the URBOND Award for ASF Young Person of the Year.
URBOND are a charity working to drive opportunities, wellness and success for young people and their future. Programmes are designed to support young people and provide them with the best opportunity to fulfil their potential particularly those within settings where issues such as crime are prevalent.
Together with other youth organisations in the city, such as Pompey in the Community and Motiv8, we joined URBOND to celebrate the successes of young people in our great waterfront city. We enjoyed an evening of celebrations, performances from young people, and conversations over a lovely spread of food and drinks.
You may recognise Stanley from his participant story earlier in the year. Our Aiming High Lead Instructor, Ella Williams, headed to the stage to present him with his award.
“Stanley began his journey with Andrew Simpson Centres Portsmouth by attending our subsidised programme, Aiming High Club. Stanley’s confidence and enthusiasm for sailing grew and he became a well-known face around the centre attending not just Aiming High Club but our mainstream Sailing club too. Stanley is now a very knowledgeable and experienced sailor. This year we have seen Stanley take on a new role as an Assistant Instructor volunteering throughout the Summer. He particularly helps the instructors at Aiming High club, helping participants feel comfortable and showing them something to aspire to. We are so pleased to have Stanley involved with our centre.”
