RYA Level 3

Push your sailing skills further on the RYA Level 3 course. Fine-tune your boat handling and gain confidence in more challenging conditions while working towards your RYA Level 3 certificate.

Activity overview

This 2-day intermediate sailing course is designed for sailors who have successfully completed RYA Level 2. You will develop and refine your boat handling skills, gaining experience in a wider range of conditions and learning techniques from advanced modules. The course focuses on enhancing control, precision, and confidence on the water, preparing you for more independent sailing and future progression in racing or advanced sailing courses.

What to expect

  • Advanced boat handling and steering techniques
  • Sail trim and sail balance for optimal performance
  • Launching and recovery in a variety of conditions
  • Capsize recovery and self-rescue under more challenging scenarios
  • Enhanced understanding of wind, tide, and water conditions
  • Safety awareness and decision-making on open water
  • Introduction to advanced sailing modules such as spinnakers or trapeze (tasters depending on conditions)

Prerequisites & course minimum requirements

Participants must have successfully completed the RYA Level 2 course. This ensures you have the foundational skills needed to safely and confidently progress to intermediate and advanced sailing techniques.
