Activity overview

The Start to Paddle Award is perfect for complete beginners who want to learn the essential skills for stand-up paddleboarding. This half-day course covers everything you need to get started, including safely getting on and off your board, using the correct clothing and equipment, and understanding how to control your SUP on the water. Participants will also be introduced to key safety practices and tips for launching and landing from different locations.

Throughout the course, you will practice practical skills such as paddling forward, turning, stopping, and controlling your direction. The focus is on safe, enjoyable, and confidence-building experiences so that participants can explore calm waters independently. This award is open to anyone aged 12 and above, with no prior experience required, making it the perfect first step into the exciting world of SUP. By the end of the session, participants will have the foundational skills to progress to the Discover Paddle Award and continue developing as confident paddlers
