The Start to Paddle Award is designed for complete beginners who want to learn the fundamental skills needed to enjoy kayaking safely. This half-day course covers everything from getting on and off your kayak to basic paddling techniques, ensuring that participants feel confident and secure on the water. You will also be introduced to the essential equipment needed for kayaking, along with tips for launching and landing from different locations you are likely to encounter.

During the course, participants will practice practical skills such as paddling forward, turning, stopping, and returning to their starting point. The emphasis is on safe and enjoyable experiences, helping you build the confidence to explore calm waters independently. This award is suitable for anyone aged 12 and above who is eager to learn to kayak, regardless of previous experience. By the end of the session, participants will have the foundational skills to progress to the Discover Paddle Award and continue their journey as a competent and confident paddler.
