Hundreds of sailors try out sailing at Portland’s annual Open Day
May 4th was Portland’s annual open day, which saw hundreds of people get out on the water, with many experiencing sailing for the first time. Glorious sunshine descended in Dorset and a great day was had, from climbing walls and bouncy castles, to face painting and kayaking, SUP’s, sailing and more, it was once again a brilliant day in the calendar – featuring of course, the famous annual Cardboard boat race.
All the participants on the day were taken out by instructors from ASC Portland, with 75% of those instructors being trained through the ASFs subsidised instructor training. This training enables local young people to train within the maritime industry and follow a career path which otherwise may not be as accessible.
We hope all who came along had a great time in the sunshine and out on the water!
